Being a highly regarded Hindu holy place, you are expected to enter the temple with a clean body and wearing decent modest clothing. Men can wear traditional dhoti or pants with kurta or shirt. Please avoid wearing lungies, short jeans, Bermudas etc. Women may wear sarees, salwars or long skirts with proper shoulder covering upper clothes. Please avoid wearing tight body hugging clothes, short skirts and sleeveless tops. It may however be mentioned that the official website of the temple does not mention any Madurai Meenakshi temple dress code.
Mobiles and other items
You are not allowed to carry mobiles, cameras or other electronic items inside the temple. There is a strict security check at the entrance were your bags can be subjected to x-ray checking. Also, you cannot carry any footwear inside the temple. However socks are usually allowed in case you have health problems. You can deposit your mobile and other items including footwear at counters designated for this purpose before entering the temple.
Temple Timings
The temple normally opens around 5:00 a.m. in the morning. Darshan is allowed except during Pooja Times. The temple closes around 12:30 p.m. for an afternoon break.
In the evening the temple opens around 4 PM and darshan is allowed from 4:00 p.m. to 10 p.m.
There can be variations of Meenakshi Amman temple timings depending on festivals, special occasions and days of the week.
Special Darshan and other facilities.
From the counters inside the temple you can purchase tickets for special Darshan. You can use the Rs 100 ticket for Darshan inside both Meenakshi and Sundareswaran Temple. Rupees 50 ticket is also available for Darshan in one Temple only. You can find the official tourist guides near the Tamil Nadu Tourist Information booth inside the entrance.
